Charmed- $D$ -Meson Production by Neutrinos

Abstract

We have observed the production of the

D^{0}

meson by neutrinos followed by the decay

D^{0} \to {K_{S}}^{0} + π^{+} + π^{-}

. Correcting for detection efficiencies and

K^{0}

decay branching ratios, we find that the production of the

D^{0}

followed by decay into

K^{0} π^{+} π^{-}

corresponds to (0.7 ± 0.2)% of all charged-current neutrino interactions.
