Abstract
Tumors of the peripheral nerves may cause pain in the lower extremities. This fact evidently is not well known since the diagnosis is often missed for many months or years. The pain associated with a peripheral nerve tumor is most often constant, severe, having some of the characteristics of causalgia. On physical examination a smooth round well demarcated mass movable from side to side but not in the long axis of the nerve is found. The tumors are tender on palpation. In the four cases reported they were typical perineural fibroblastomas. The removal of the tumors was followed by complete relief of pain or marked improvement in all cases. Keywords
