Abstract
This paper presents the description and analysis of a high power GTO current source power converter (CSC) supply. The proposed power supply provides input waveforms that are nearly sinusoidal, fast control of the DC load current, and feedforward unity power factor correction for different load conditions. In order to achieve these task, the programmed PWM patterns with selective harmonic elimination (SHE) of lower order harmonics in the source line currents are employed. Introduction of low switching frequency PWM gating patterns suitable for high power GTO switches and system analysis to get the unity power factor are discussed in detail. A systematic design procedure for the GTO-CSC and selection of SHE-PWM patterns for a variable load is presented. Finally, the computer simulation results are presented to verify the theoretical analysis.<>Keywords
