Abstract
Examinations were made by a pediatrician, ophthalmologist and psychologist, and complemented with EEG-recordings and laboratory determinations, were performed on 41 3-yr-old children who had received phototherapy during the 1st wk of life and 42 control children of the same age. No differences were found in growth, development, social maturity, neurological or ophthalmologic disorders, EEG-recordings or laboratory determinations between the groups. Phototherapy for hyperbilirubinemia seems to cause no harmful long-term effects provided the eyes are shielded. Keywords
