Abstract
An isolated heart prepn. is described which was designed for the purpose of studying the ventricular relaxation process. The heart (dog) is isolated in situ and the coronary arteries perfused from the femoral artery of a donor. Right atrial and ventricular pressures are adjusted independently by a hydrostatic system. It is possible, within limits, to adjust the initial ventricular volume and to abolish large changes of ventricular volume during the cardiac cycle. Representative pressure curves are shown.
