Abstract
During the 1985 Fourth of July holiday season, the American Academy of Ophthalmology will ask its members to participate in the first nationwide fireworks ocular injury survey, which was proposed by the Public Information Committee of the academy. Several important considerations were discussed before undertaking this project. Among them were: Are fireworks an ocular hazard? What benefits will a national survey provide? How will the project work?ARE FIREWORKS AN OCULAR HAZARD?Fireworks have been a traditional form of celebration through the centuries. In fact, on each Fourth of July in America, there are more fireworks ignited than for any other national celebration in the world! No one can deny the feeling of exhilaration that accompanies a beautiful fireworks aerial display.
