Prediction of Delinquency, Adjustment, and Academic Achievement over a 5-Year Period with the Kvaraceus Delinquency Proneness Scale

Abstract
The purpose of this research was to evaluate the predictive validity of the Kvaraceus Delinquency (KD) Proneness Scale over a 5-year period with indices of delinquency, adjustment, and academic achievement as the criteria. Teachers in grades 3, 6, and 9 in all schools in a county were asked to nominate children whose behavior was persistently aggressive-disruptive and children whose behavior was persistently socially approved. From 1,550 nominees, 384 were randomly drawn for study. Along with other measures, the KD Proneness Scale was administered. Data were secured concerning: contact with police or sheriff departments over the 5-year period; social adjustments as rated by current teachers; current academic achievement in the form of STEP scores; teacher grades in four curricular areas; or rank in graduating class for original ninth graders who were now out of school. The Scale was found to be ineffective as a predictor of Ss’ contacts with law enforcement agencies but of some use in predicting school social adjustment and reading achievement.
