Abstract
The use of lagoons for concentration and storage of sludges is frequently a desirable method leading to satisfactory disposal of the water treatment plant wastes. The 6,000,000 gpd water treatment plant of the Blacksburg-Christiansburg-VPI Water Authority includes a 1,000,000-gal water lagoon built for sludge concentration and storage. In view of the limited data available on the operational efficiency of such lagoons, studies were conducted to analyze the performance of this unit and to subsequently develop design parameters and recommend operational procedures for lagoon disposal of these wastes. Keywords
