Abstract
The most common cause of a midline cervical lesion in childhood is a thyroglossal duct remnant. It is disappointing to find that although the embryology and rationale of definitive treatment have been well understood for many years, there persists a high incidence of inadequate surgical treatment in the first instance, especially in the hands of general surgeons. Keywords
