Abstract
In the course of catheterisation of the left heart [long dash]ASD in 30 cases, transseptal puncture of the left atrium in 12[long dash]transient ecg changes of ischemia of the posterior or anterior wall were observed while the catheter was in the left atrium. On one occasion similar changes were recorded during catheterisation of the aorta through a high VSD. In one instance several stages following in quick succession were observed, essentially resembling successive stages of a posterior infarct. As a possible underlying mechanism an intra-cardiac reflex, mechanically precipitated, is discussed. These observations are of interest as the ecg changes have a bearing on the discomfort which some patients experience during left heart catheterisation.
