Curative Treatments for Phytophthora Cactorum in Peach Trees Using Metalaxyl and Phosethyl Al.

Abstract

Field studies using artificially infected trees have shown that metalaxyl and phosethyl Al are effective curative treatments for trunk rot of peach, caused by Phytophthora cactorum. Soil application of metalaxyl (as Ridomil5 G) at 5 or 10 g ai. per tree, and soil or foliar application of phosethyl A1 (as Aliette 80 W) at 64 g ai. per tree, reduced the growth and viability of P. cactorum when applied two weeks after inoculation (in spring) and again the following autumn. Trunk paints of metalaxyl (as Ridomil 25 WP) at 1.25% ai. and phosethyl A1 (as Aliette 80 W) at 20 and 40% ai. were also effective when applied one week after inoculation of limbs, in either spring or autumn. No phytotoxicity was observed.
