Conversion of Gholest-4-en-3-one to 5 -Cholestan-3 -ol by Centrifugal Fractions of Rat Liver.

Abstract
The whole homogenate of female rat liver, as well as the centrifugal fraction of mitochondria and microsomes prepared from it, actively converts cholest-4-en-3-one to 5o-cholestan-3(8-ol, thereby demonstrating the presence in these fractions of 5o-hydrogenase and 3B-dehydrogenase activities. One or both of these enzymes was absent in the supernatant fraction. A particulate fraction (148,000 x g) prepared from sonically disrupted mitochondria was more active in reducing cholest-4-en-3-one to 5a-cholestan-3/3-ol than were the disrupted mitochondria.
