Abstract
Certain psychological and legal issues warrant special attention by professionals involved with separated parents and their children. Such issues as the importance of the counselor's strict neutrality regarding the divorce decision; mandatory vs. voluntary counseling; what, when, and how to tell the children; parental criticism of one another; some common children's reactions to the divorce (denial, anger, reconciliation obsessions); custody determination; and certain legal and social changes that should lessen the psychological trauma of divorce are focused on.Keywords
