Abstract
Six new potential reactions for the syntheses of black polymeric Schiff bases were evaluated; the reaction of aryldiacetals with (1) aryldiamines, (2) aryldiamine salts, (3) dibenzylidenearylenediamines, and (4) N, N′ -diacetylarylenediamines, respectively, (5) the reaction of aryldialdehydes with N, N1 -diacetylarylenediamines, and (6) the reaction of bis-Schiff bases with N, N′ -diacetylarylenediamines. Reactions (1) and (3) were found to be satisfactory and were applied to the syntheses of a number of polymers. The thermal stabilities of the polymers thus prepared were shown to be equivalent to those prepared by bis-Schiff base exchange reactions. Keywords
