Abstract
The theory of the collection of positive ions by a probe immersed in a low pressure plasma is reviewed and extended. The ion current is determined mainly by the electric field which penetrates beyond the sheath edge into the plasma. Computed potential distributions for a spherical probe are presented, together with the calculated positive ion current-voltage characteristics. Keywords
