Abstract
The continuation of electronic energy bands in the neighborhood of symmetry points is discussed in terms of explicit expressions derived within the Green's-function method. The accuracy and convenience of these formulas are demonstrated in the calculations of specific band parameters at various symmetry points of the Brillouin zone for degenerate as well as nondegenerate states in both nonrelativistic and relativistic problems. Applications of this approach are briefly discussed. Keywords
