Abstract
Approximately 250 schizophrenic patients from 8 hospitals were followed on a double-blind basis for 6 months of phenothiazine treatment. The major purpose of the study was to examine drug-induced changes upon specific psychopathological symptoms over the 6 month treatment period. The following results were obtained: Specific psychopathological symptoms derived from the Inpatient Multidimensional Psychiatric Scale showed 2 kinds of change patterns over time: Pattern 1 in which all of the significant changes occur within the first 5 treatment weeks and Pattern 2 in which changes continue through the 13th week but not thereafter. Using Venables" classification of paranoid and withdrawal symptoms, all withdrawal symptoms were in Pattern 1, and all paranoid symptoms were in Pattern 2. These results reinforce the value of the paranoid vs. withdrawal distinction studying perceptual performance in schizophrenic patients. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
