Abstract
Tracings were made of the outlines of various oral and nasal pharyngeal structures of 2 patients with operative facial defects, as revealed through projection of successive frames of sound and silent motion pictures. There is a clear difference between the various acts of swallowing and forms of pneumatic control such as speech, blowing, etc. Individual variation in the present observations suggest that prosthodontists and surgeons should pay careful attention to the observed differences in palatopharyngeal action during speech and deglutition in order to obtain the best possible results in repair of this condition. Keywords
