Abstract
This paper describes the need to focus on the implications that present accelerating changes in our society will have on the future of social work education and in particular field work education. The author examines the current controversies between the class and field and suggests some specific and drastic steps that need to be taken if the student, the agency, and the educational institutions will be able to respond to the challenges of “future shock”.
