The Identity of a Phytophthora Species from Black Pepper in Thailand

Abstract
Studies of 2 isolates pathogenic to Piper nigrum revealed that they do not fit the descriptions of any of the Phytophthora species previously reported pathogenic on Piper spp., including the atypical strain of palmivora. The following morphological features Phytophthora of these isolates are considered unique: extremely long pedicels on the sporangia, often exceeding 100 .mu.m in lenght; double-septate sporangia; and fan-shapted, or umbellate arrangement of sporangia.
