Hemochromatosis Terminating in Polycythemia and Hepatoma, with Observations on the Natural History of Hemochromatosis

Abstract
LIVER tumors, usually hepatomas, are relatively frequent in cases of hepatic cirrhosis, occurring in approximately 3 or 4 per cent of patients with alcoholic cirrhosis and in a somewhat higher percentage (approximately 6 to 14 per cent) of those with postnecrotic cirrhosis or hemochromatosis.1 , 2 Polycythemia is encountered in association with tumors of a number of tissues, including the liver.3 4 5 6 7 The present report concerns a patient with hemochromatosis who was followed for several years, and in whom, during the last few months of life, a fulminant polycythemia and cancer of the liver developed simultaneously.Case ReportThe patient was 58 years . . .
