Quadrupole Moment of the 21.6-keV State ofEu151

Abstract
Mössbauer absorption in noncubic europium compounds (EuSO4, EuC2 O4, EuCl2, EuCO3) shows a combined magnetic and quadrupole interaction at very low temperatures. The nuclear quadrupole moment ratio for Eu151, Q(21.6 keV)Q(ground)=1.30±0.05, was obtained from measurements at 0.054°K. With Q(ground)=1.16 b, we find Q(21.6 keV)=1.51 b. Earlier measurements are discussed in view of the present results.
