Abstract
Growing attention is being accorded to nonsaponific cleavage of esters. Strong nucleophiles (LiI,1 RS−, 2) have been exploited successfully to effect rupture of 0-alkyl bonds in methyl and a few other esters. As reagents of this sort are still quite limited, we felt that it may be of interest to provide some alternatives.Keywords
