Abstract
Natural magmatic, metamorphic, and metasomatic processes proceed under conditions of open systems and under the action of diffusion and infiltration streams of matter with different mobility of components. During diffusion metasomatism, the composition of a mineral solid solution changes gradually within each zone, whereas in infiltration metasomatism the mineral composition remains constant within a given zone. In systems in which the acidity and the reduction potential are externally controlled, the acid-base interaction of components furnishes another criterion for distinguishing infiltration from diffusion processes. Keywords
