Abstract
The article presents a simple typology of housing goals and indicates some of the connections between the type of goals and other aspects of housing policy: what kind of rhetoric they are accompanied by, what kind of information they appear to require, and the regularity of the decision opportunities. The article presents these points by way of a general argument, and does not try to provide extensive illustration of the categories, or supply detailed evidence for the connections indicated, since this would require a much more extensive presentation. It is suggested that the categories would be of considerable use in the charting of the recent policy changes of Western European states within the area of housing policy.
