Abstract
Cholecystectomy is the most commonly performed elective abdominal surgical procedure in the United States with more than 750 000 performed yearly.1 Injury to the common bile duct (CBD) during cholecystectomy occurs infrequently, but it is an important source of patient morbidity. Serious injuries often require at least 1 surgical repair, and these repairs have variable long-term outcomes.2 Furthermore, CBD injury is the leading cause of medical malpractice claims against general surgeons.3,4Keywords
