A multi-radio-frequency study of the radio-quiet quasar E1821+643

Abstract
We present the first multi-radio-frequency study of a radio-quiet quasar, E1821+643. Our maps show two possible jet candidates on diametrically opposite sides of the core. A spectral index study is presented, which reveals some extended, very steep-spectrum material, which may be associated either with products of a diverted jet or with a starburst. We present evidence that the steep spectrum of the extended radio emission is caused by rapid ageing of the synchrotron electrons in the radiation field of the quasar. Finally, we discuss our data in the context of AGN unification schemes.
