Abstract
A detailed investigation of the generation of soundwaves from an oscillating piston is considered within the framework of kinetic theory. Two kinetic models appropriate to the problem are developed. Both of these are exactly solved by the Wiener‐Hopf method. Under a certain special limit, gas dynamics is shown to hold. A variety of other special limits are also considered. Keywords
