Measurement of the Polarization in the Decays $B_{d} \to J / {ψ K}^{* 0}$ and $B_{s} \to J / ψ φ$

Abstract

This Letter reports on measurements of the longitudinal polarization fractions in the decays

B_{d} \to J / ψ K^{* 0}

and

B_{s} \to J / ψ φ

using data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab.

B_{d}

mesons are reconstructed through the decay chain

B_{d} \to J / ψ K^{* 0}

,

J / ψ \to μ^{+} μ^{-}

,

K^{* 0} \to K^{+} π^{-}

. A sample of

65 \pm 10 B_{d}

events is used to obtain a longitudinal polarization fraction of

γ_{L} / γ = 0.65 \pm 0.10 (stat) \pm 0.04 (syst)

.

B_{s}

mesons are reconstructed through the decay chain

B_{s} \to J / ψ φ

,

J / ψ \to μ^{+} μ^{-}

,

φ \to K^{+} K^{-}

. A sample of

19 \pm 5 B_{s}

events is used to obtain the result

γ_{L} / γ = 0.56 \pm 0.21 (stat)_{- 0.04}^{+ 0.02} (syst)
