Abstract
A model is suggested for the gas in galactic nuclei. The injection of gas from evolving stars and its consequent settling to the inner regions of galaxies is shown to produce a high temperature–low density medium which is strongly thermally unstable. The instability produces clouds whose mass and radius are in rough agreement with observations. Keywords
