Abstract
A system of Goluum chromat.ography suitable for the separation of the biologically important iodine compounds is described. Analysis of hydrolysed i;hyroid tissue shows the presence of thyroxine, 3,5,3'-tri-iodothyronine enT), 3,5-di-iodotyrosille (DIT)', mono-iodotyrosine (MIT), and other unidentified iodinecontaining compounds. The relative abundance of thyroxiue and TIT present. as free amino acids in 'the thyroid is different. from that of the same amino acids in protein combinat.ion. The amount of freo t.hyroxine is less thall tho free TIT, whereas in the oombined amino acids thyroxine is in excess of TIT.Keywords
