Developments in interactive on‐line television systems and Teletext information services in the home

Abstract
A brief technical description is given of Teletext and Viewdata developments in the United Kingdom. These systems use modified domestic television receivers to receive pages of text. The Viewdata system enables a subscriber to select a desired page by transmitting command data using a simple keypad. ISI's SCITEL science news service, mounted on Viewdata, is described, and current and future prospects for on‐line interactive information services in the home are reviewed.
