Abstract
Rabbits kept at an environmental temp. of 30[degree] C progressively accelerate the respiratory frequency, which reaches 300 per min. when the rectal temp. has risen to 40.2[degree] C. Following the intramusc. injn. of 2,4-dinitrophenol (20 mg. per kg.), this frequency is not reached under similar conditions, until the rectal temp. has reached 41.1[degree]C. It is concluded that dinitrophenol depresses the heat defense mechanisms by a nonspecific toxic action. Keywords
