Nuclear magnetic resonance study of the conformations of penicillins in solution using lanthanide ion probes

Abstract
The conformations of ampicillin, penicillin G and penicillin V sulphoxide in aqueous solution have been studied by analysing the shift and relaxation perturbations to the nuclear magnetic resonance spectra induced by binding lanthanide cations. The conformations of the molecules in solution are very similar, despite differences observed in the solid state.
