Attempts at Interspecies Genetic Transfer in Trypanosomes

Abstract
By using high molecular weight nucleic acids isolated from in vitro cultures of the Tulahuen strain of Schizotry-panum cruzi added to blood stream forms of Trypanosoma lewisi in buffered saline for various lengths of time prior to inoculation, experiments were made to check for genetic transfer of infectivity from S. cruzi to T. lewisi as evidenced by mouse and reduviid infections. No interspecies genetic transfer could be demonstrated.
