Abstract
Demographic and assessment data from almost 5,000 nursing home residents were used to identify patients most likely to have a decubitus ulcer at admission. Using multivariate analysis, it was found that older age, being male, nonwhite, unable to bathe, needing help transferring, being catheterized, experiencing fecal incontinence, being bed- or chairfast, coming from a hospital, and having no rehabilitation potential were significantly related to having a sore. These findings can be better utilized to identify residents entering with decubitus ulcers and to help target for early treatment. Keywords
