Rapid, Quantitative Estimation of Human Placental Lactogen in Maternal Serum by Complement Fixation

Abstract
Human placental lactogen has been estimated in maternal serum from 9 to 40 weeks of gestation by quantitative complement fixation. The range of values obtained is sufficiently narrow in normal pregnancy and the precision of the assay is such that levels deviating from normal are significant. The data obtained by this technique in a small sample of abnormal pregnancy conditions are presented and suggest the need to examine more pathologic material.
