Abstract
Far-ranging investigations are probing the intriguing epidemiologic and pathogenic patterns of this disease, which has challenged and frustrated rheumatologists for decades. Studies focusing on host factors have uncovered some suggestive immunologic associations, encouraging confidence that the pathogenesis of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease will be clearly understood. Keywords
