Studied food intakes and body weights in 65 overweight female Sprague-Dawley rats that were sham-operated, adrenalectomized, or adrenalectomized and ovariectomized. Before surgery the groups were equivalent. Postoperatively, the adrenalectomized Ss showed diminished food consumption and body weight relative to the ovariectomized and adrenalectomized Ss. Data are discussed in terms of a delicate estrogen-progesterone balance in the control of body weight. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
