Abstract
Comparisons of concentrations of ascorbic acid in plasma and whole blood from patients undergoing long-term hemodialysis revealed losses of 41% of the vitamin in plasma and 18% in whole blood after a single dialysis treatment. These losses were compared with previous findings which confirmed losses of the vitamin during dialysis amounting to 40 and 26% of the predialysis plasma and leukocyte concentrations, respectively. Measurement of ascorbic acid concentration in whole blood is recommended for routine monitoring purposes. Keywords
