Abstract
Field expts. conducted in 1938 and 1939 with weekly spray applications for the control of the gladiolus thrips [Taeniothrips simplex] are discussed. 12 sprays containing tartar emetic (U.S.P. or Tech. grade) and brown sugar in quantities varying from 2 and 4 to 4 and 16 lbs., respectively, per 100 gal. of water were tested. All gave good thrips control equal to the recommended dosage of 4 lbs. tartar emetic U.S.P. and 16 lbs. brown sugar per 100 gal. of water and to the previously recommended paris green-brown sugar combination. A Ca Sb tartrate gave results comparable with those for a tartar emetic spray of equal Sb content. The following spray combinations gave unsatisfactory thrips control: tartar emetic-powdered karaya gum, tartar emetic-sodium oleyl sulfate + synthetic resins, nicotine sulfate-powdered karaya gum, derris-peanut oil-Na oleyl sulfate, and derris-varnish-Na lauryl sulfate. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
