An Analysis of the Interfacial Effect on the Heat Conduction in a Namatic Mesophase

Abstract
An analysis of the interfacial effect on the thermal conductivity of a nematic mesophase-liquied crystal p-azoxyanisole is given. It is shown that the thermal conductivity data at different gaps in a “Parallel plate” cell can be used in conjuction with a simple theory based on the orientation of “swarms” in mematic mesophases, to estimate some of the properties of the liquid crystal studies. The results show close agreement with those from optical studies. A discussion on the present state of the knowledge on interfacial orientation is also given.
