Abstract
The securing of suitable experimental equipment often discourages investigators in the field of animal nutrition. Digestion and mineral balance trials have been tedious, laborious and time consuming. Equipment is sometimes so expensive as to preclude some valuable work being done by some experiment stations. An experimental project being studied at the University of California made it desirable to run a digestion and mineral balance trial with horses. A search was made through the literature for a description of a suitable harness for the work, but none was found that seemed desirable. In observing animals it may be noticed that the horse lifts its tail a considerable height during the act of defecation. The tail is lifted by means of the strong sacro-coccygeus superior muscles. Advantage was taken of this fact and in making the harness shown in the accompanying photograph and described in detail below. Two harnesses were made from one complete hide of leather. Keywords
