Abstract
The mitochondrial division of Scizosaccharomyces pombe in synchronous culture has been studied with light and electron microscopic observations. The change of mitochondrial shape and the fibrous structure in this organelle were discussed. The respiratory activity was also measured at each culture time. The nuclear division begins already by 1/5 cell cycle, and ends at 4/5 cell cycle. The mitochondrial division begins at 2/5 cell cycle, and ends at 3/5 cell cycle. This regular periodic change would suggest the correlation between the nuclear and mitochondrial division. Keywords
