Abstract
Hydrogen recombination line emission from the 252 α transition near 408 MHz has been detected in the direction of five southern galactic H II regions: RCW38, RCW49, RCW53 (the Carina nebula), G305.3 + 0.2 and M17. The observed line widths indicate line formation in regions having electron densities of ≲ 10 2 cm −3 , in general agreement with observations of other sources at low frequencies. Keywords
