Abstract
The general elastic post‐buckling characteristics of a discrete conservative structural system with independent loading parameters are studied, attention being restricted to the immediate neighbourhood of a ‘special critical’ point. The analogy between the Poincaré's branching condition and a ‘asymmetric special’ critical point is demonstrated. A theorem concerning the stability distribution on the fundamental and post‐buckling equilibrium surfaces is proved. Keywords
