Abstract
This study demonstrates that opercular bones may be used to identify, at least to family level, and to estimate the lengths of prey consumed by some piscivores. Other bones may be used, in conjunction with the operculum, to identify species. Among creek chub (Semotilus atromaculatus (Mitchill)) digestion does not affect the accuracy of the technique but for other species this effect should be accounted for before usage.
