Abstract
It is evident from the results obtained that in nucleohistones from somatic mammalian cells, in addition to the fraction commonly designated as histone there is also, apparently generally, a protein, the linkage of which to the desoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is independent of the ionic strength of the solvent. It appears that this protein serves as an overstructure of the DNA which is irreversibly destroyed by heating to 60[degree] C, apparently by denaturing the protein portion. As a practical consequence it appears that the simple recombination of pure DNA with previously isolated histones can not again form native nucleohistones, and even as a model artificially prepared DNA protein complexes are probably to be used only with limitations. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
