The Thermodynamic Properties of Dilute Solutions of Oxygen in the Liquid Binary Cu-Ni Alloys

Abstract
Thermodynamic properties of dilute solutions of oxygen in the Cu‐Ni systems have been studied by means of the hydrogen‐water vapor equilibrium The following reaction was studied for which an equilibrium ratio can be written where and are the partial pressures of water vapor and hydrogen and [a/o O] is the amount of dissolved oxygen in atomic per cent. The equilibrium reaction [1] has been investigated over a wide temperature range and also for various composition ranges. Equations are presented which show the variation of the equilibrium constant [1] as a function of composition and temperature. Equations are also presented which show the variation of the standard free energy of solution of oxygen as a function of temperature for various compositions. Evidence is presented which shows Henry's law is obeyed by oxygen within experimental error over a substantial composition range.
