Abstract
The effect of secretin and pancreozymin on amylase and alkaline phosphatase secretion by the dog''s pancreas was observed by using highly purified secretin and pancreozymin. A "continuous" secretin injn. method was used. An increase of secretin admn. caused an increase in the volume of juice but did not bring about an increase in the output of the enzyme per min. Secretin, therefore, has no stimulating effect on enzyme production of the pancreas, neither amylase nor alkaline phosphatase. Pancreozymin stimulates the amylase output of the pancreas, but not alkaline phosphatase. The observations indicated that the source of enzyme secretion is probably not the same for phosphatase as for the other 3 major enzymes. Jacoby''s suggestion that the ductule cells are responsible for the production of the phosphatase and the acinar cells for the other 3 enzymes, is supported. Keywords
